As an integral part of the machine tool status inspection process, ballbar inspection not only helps ensure the stability and consistency of part quality, but also automatically analyzes the results and diagnoses errors, which means machine tool operators no longer have to follow principles and formulas to figure out what the data really means, determine where the problem occurred, and find a remedy. This will save a lot of time in actual production.

  • The ballbar body (essentially a high-precision telescopic linear sensor with a precision ball on each end)
  • Two precision magnetic bowl seats, one magnetic bowl seat is connected to the machine tool workbench, and the other is connected to the machine tool spindle or spindle box.

       During use, the sensor's precision ball is fixed to the magnetic ball bowl in a three-point mechanical positioning. This installation method allows the ballbar to measure small changes in the machine tool's radius as the machine tool moves a preset circular trajectory around the center seat on the workbench.

       Using the data collected, the software calculates an overall measurement of position accuracy (roundness, roundness deviation) based on international standards or Renishaw's own analysis reports. This report uses a unique mathematical analysis method to diagnose multiple additional individual machine tool errors through a linear set of readings. Data is displayed in graphical and numerical form to aid and support troubleshooting.

 

      Ballbar testing can simply and quickly detect whether the positional performance of CNC machine tools meets recognized international standards (such as ISO, ANSI/ASME, etc.). Users can benchmark and track machine tool conditions and quickly diagnose machine tool problems and identify the error sources that cause them.

  • Z-axis testing is more convenient (no custom fixtures required).
  • Reduced requirements for axis travel (the Z-axis travel of machining centers and the X-axis travel of lathes are usually shorter)
  • It only takes one center setting to test 3 planes, perform a "partial arc" test on 2 of the planes, and then display the "spatial analysis" results.
