Select the tap tolerance zone
Domestic machine taps are marked with pitch diameter tolerance zone codes: H1, H2, H3 respectively indicate the same position of the tolerance zone, but the tolerance values are different. Select thread format
There are three common common thread systems: metric system , imperial system , and unified system (also called American system). Select the type of tap
What we often use are: straight flute taps, spiral flute taps, spiral point taps, and extrusion taps, each with its own merits.
Straight fluted taps are the most versatile, can process through holes or closed holes, non-ferrous metals or ferrous metals, and are also the cheapest. But the pertinence is also poor. Everything can be done, but nothing can be done best. Spiral flute taps are more suitable for processing blind hole threads, and the chips are discharged backward during processing. Due to the helix angle, the actual cutting rake angle of the tap will increase as the helix angle increases.
Experience tells us: when processing ferrous metals, the spiral angle should be smaller, usually around 30 degrees, to ensure the strength of the spiral teeth. When processing non-ferrous metals, the helix angle should be larger, around 45 degrees, for sharper cutting. When threading with a helical point tap, the chips are discharged forward. Extrusion taps are more suitable for processing non-ferrous metals.
